Community Darkroom 517
Upon realizing the local need for an accessible, safe and welcoming photographic creative space in the Lansing area, in 2018 Jacqui Carroll and I created CD517. It became the second, and only other, community darkroom space in Mid-Michigan. In late 2019, we welcomed Gina Tremonti-Gembel to the team. Together, we developed an inclusive curriculum designed to teach the basics, along with the more advanced and alternative processes of black and white and color photography to community members alongside high-school aged students. Our workshops and classes were grant funded and offered at little, to no, cost, making it an equitable and inclusive experience for all. I left the team in June 2020 to make a move across the country, though still consult on occasion.
